What to Recycle

Wise County currently recycles Glass, Aluminum, Metal, Plastic, Paper, Cardboard, Rubber Tires* and Electronics.  You may not realize it, but there are different types of most of these recyclables.  The list below will explain what we accept for recycling.

Paper - All office paper, shredded paper, manila envelops and folders, magazines and newspaper.  We also accept paperboard such as shoe boxes and cereal boxes.

Plastic - Number one and number two plastic containers.   A plastic soda pop bottle is an example of a number one plastic.  A gallon of milk container is an example of a number two plastic.

Cardboard - All corrugated (thick) cardboard.  *Remember that cereal boxes and shoeboxes are made of paperboard and not cardboard.

Aluminum - All aluminum cans and aluminum metal pieces.

Glass - All bottled glass.  The color of it does not matter.  Wise County accepts clear, green, brown or any other color of glass.

Metal - White goods, such as stoves, refrigerators, freezers, etc.

Electronics - Most electronic goods such as computers, radios, cameras, printers, copiers, fax machines, televisions and telephones.

Rubber Tires* - All passenger car & light truck tires.   This is the only item that you have to pay to dispose of.  There is a fee of $2.00 charged to you for each tire brought in.

How to Recycle

Recycling is very easy to do.  All you have to do is the follow simple steps:

1.  Fix up a separate container in your house to hold each different kind of recyclable material you normally have in your household.  These containers can be as simple as bags, boxes, or trash cans.

2.  When you go to throw away something in your house, separate out the different recyclables and put them in their designated containers.

3.  When your containers get full, take them to one of our convenience centers and deposit them into the recycling stations.
